Cheryl

Hi! I'm Cheryl and I go by any pronouns (they/she/he). I’m a senior in Toronto, Canada and I'm super grateful to be working with the wonderful team at Peiskos as Editor-In-Chief! Currently, my favorite genre to write in is poetry, though I've been dabbling in lyric essays, hermit crabs, and prose-poems as well. I'm also an alum of Kenyon Young Writers' Studio, where I was able to indulge in my love for the pastoral and meet some of my closest friends (and most admirable writers---y'all are so talented). I’m currently working on a debut poetry collection. Some of my favourite poets and writers include Hanif Abdurraquib, Ocean Vuong, Richard Siken, Aaliyah Daniels, William Stafford, Chen Chen, among others. Also shoutout to my favorite authors on ao3 because I can't believe I get to read your masterpieces for free.

Mia

Hey, I’m Mia! I’m from Toronto, Canada and I’m a senior in high school. I am so proud to be a co-founder and co-editor-in-chief for Peiskos! As a writer, I dabble in a lot of mediums; In the past, I’ve written a couple one act plays, one of which is being workshopped by the Toronto French Theatre, and have written too many songs to count. Since then, I have worked to challenge myself and expand my repertoire–– At the Iowa Young Writers Studio, I took a course on experimental and integrated writing that gave me permission to ground my writing within myself but simultaneously bring it beyond my body and my being.

Currently, I am working on my debut novel in script, Bulletwound, about unconventional, unconditional love and the ambiguity of the future, as well as a little EP of indie/folk/chamber pop music.

Some of my favourite pieces in general at the moment are Ocean Vuong’s Time is a Mother and On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous, Danez Smith’s Homie, Tony Kushner’s Angels in America and A Bright Room Called Day, Anne Carson’s Autobiography of Red and Carmen Maria Machado’s Her Body and Other Parties.

technical directors

(Linda X^2)

l. xiao

Hey! I’m Linda, my pronouns are she/her, and I’m a high school senior and occasional writer based in Toronto, Canada. I’m very honoured to be one half of Linda X^2 on the technical team. I help manage the technical side of submissions, various Google Sheets, and am involved in the upkeep of the website. I’m also pleased to assist the marketing team!

My interests range from Taylor Swift to my long TBR and my family history, all of which are topics I write about regularly on my blog (@linduckling on Medium). I am a reader first and foremost, so a guilty pleasure of mine is reading badly written romances. In addition to writing, I participate in debate and public speaking, which has led me to speak at a TEDx conference!

Some of my favourite novels are If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio, The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller, and Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. Suffice to say, I have a soft spot for found families and plenty of angst. In my free time, you can find me listening to indie music or indulging in copious amounts of bubble tea.

l. xu

Hello! My name is Linda, my pronouns are she/her, I’m in grade 12, and I am one of the technical directors for Peiskos. Unlike the extremely talented group of writers we have in our organization, I’m not much of a writer, but I love to read (I really enjoy mysteries and fiction). It’s amazing to see all the passion and effort our writers put into their work, while also just being a wonderful group of people to interact with. This platform is a great place to amplify the voices of youth without the judgment of external opinions.

As the other half to the Technical Director role, it is my job to ensure that the user experience for our magazine is simple and intuitive, while also making sure our writers are comfortable with the digital resources they are using.

Outside of Peiskos, I live in Toronto, Canada, I play the oboe in several youth orchestras, and spend hours farming for artifacts in Genshin Impact(what a nerd).

financial

director

Lillian

Hey! I’m Lillian and I’m a high-school senior in Toronto. While my role may not be as creative as the others, I’m honoured to serve as the Financial Director!

I’ve always loved to write short stories as I struggled with being patient enough to write novels. In my sophomore year, I began writing a book about culture shock and I’m trying to finish it by next summer (🤞). Occasionally, I also struggle with creativity, so academic writing is an area that I love as well. I have no preferred genre in terms of the books I read, but I’ve been pivoting to non-fiction recently. Other than writing, I usually spend my free-time debating, playing the flute, and listening to a lot of music.
